Targeted therapy is the most suitable practical approach for drug administration using hydrogels, as they are the most effective "vehicles" for drug delivery without causing adverse side effects. Herein, three different recipes of multi-component hydrogels were simultaneously cross-linked and sterilized by e-beam at 25 kGy. The multi-component hydrogels were obtained from aqueous polymer mixtures in which different proportions of bovine collagen gel, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, poly(vinylpyrrolidone), chitosan, and poly(ethylene oxide) were used. The study showed the efficiency of manufacturing hydrogels by e-beam irradiation and demonstrated the developed structures' suitability to be used as targeted and controlled drug delivery platforms employing in vitro cell- based assays.
